Writing contrafacts (new songs written over standard Jazz changes) has long been part of the Jazz tradition. Charlie Parker and Lennie Tristano being two famous composers utilizing the approach on songs like Donna Lee, Smog Eyes, Ornithology, Ablution, Marmaduke, April, Scrapple From The Apple, Blues heads and more.

These are some of the Contrafacts that I've written over the years using a variety of methods.

These compositions will give you a wide overview of the different ways I like to write over pre-existing chord changes to make them my own, original compositions.
